Kummel

A digestif liqueur made with caraway seeds, fennel, cumin, orris root and other herbs. Originally developed by Lucas Bols in the 16th Century. It is said to have been drunk by Peter the Great who in turn took the recipe East. Kummel is produced in Hamburg and a number of other European countries in addition to Holland, the degree of sweetness depending upon the recipe employed, 35-50% a.b.v.
